Lecture Three – The Afterlife of Anne Boleyn
Our final lecture of the course will consider the afterlife of Anne Boleyn. Her life and the circumstances of her death made her both notorious and legendary. We will look at the way she was viewed in the sixteenth century, including by her daughter, Elizabeth I, as well as the way that Anne has been portrayed in subsequent centuries.
Led by an expert of the Boleyn family and the Tudor period, Dr Elizabeth Norton, this Conversation will provide a detailed account of the life of Anne Boleyn, with her reputation discussed both during her lifetime and in the centuries after her death. Designed to inform curiosity as well future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of Queen Anne Boleyn, both as a real woman and as an icon, whose life is still both denigrated and celebrated today.
Dr Elizabeth Norton is a British historian, specialising in the Tudor period. She has degrees from both Oxford and Cambridge universities and King's College London. She is the author of twelve books, including 'The Hidden Lives of Tudor Women', 'The Temptation of Elizabeth Tudor' and biographies of four of Henry VIII's wives. She regularly appears as an expert on television.
