Dr. Wilson is a wonderful teacher. His explanation , organization, digressions made an overwhelming topic clearer to me.
When taking a Context walking tour of Caravaggio in Rome, I was struck by the striking similar style between Caravaggio and the Dutch. But found nothing really on the subject in Rome. (Hint to the Roman guides)
In this lecture, Alette Fletcher answers this question on how Vermeer and Rembrandt’s art absorbed the light of Caravaggio. The Dutch embraced the common man depicted in Caravaggio art. This lecture is like completing a puzzle. Do not miss this excellent lecture. When you visit Rome, it will all come together.
Asya provides an excellent deep dive into English, explaining the influence of cultural and historical events as well as linguistically changes. She has wonderful slides along with some recordings to highlight the information presented. Aysa is a very enthusiastic, engaging lecturer and welcomes questions.
Veronica Iacomi packs a lot of history into a short time. She organized & distills the information and supports it with outstanding graphics, pics and maps. Great class. Have taken others with her; would happily do another.
Dr. Bell’s lecture on Thomas Paine ranks in my “Best Ever” category. (1) He’s a smooth, well paced and enthusiastic presenter. (2) His research is thorough. (3) His presentation is organized and builds seamlessly to reveal the many components of Paine’s personality and and the depth and breadth of his intellect. (4) Dr. Bell’s graphics are attractive and on point. (5) He provides additional sources of reference for his audience. (I ordered three books.) I look forward to more lectures by Dr. Bell.
Dr. Norton gave a clear view of Elizabeth and get suitors. Since Elizabeth never married, the class explained possible reasons and then described the significant suitors among many. Fascinating to learn about the contenders who never won her.
The lecturer delivered an inspired presentation covering the whole of Elizabeth I 's reign. Not only was the content original, excellently researched and presented with clarity, but the Q&A at the end showed breadth of Dr Norton's expertise. Time very well spent.
Very interesting and well-organized presentation.
Another very interesting presentation of an important element of the history of Rome and the collections of art in Borghese Gallery. I enjoyed it very much!
Poignant, exceptional, outstanding; these words come to mind when I think of Dr. Gavin Campbell’s Context seminars. He once again has transported me to a different place and time. Through sights and sounds I was immersed into the various Buddhist branches. Brief tours of the temples evoked a visceral, deeply inward experience. I am looking forward to viewing this seminar again. Even if you know something about Buddhism, Dr. Campbell leads us on a journey from a new perspective and perhaps, one step closer to nirvana.
Dr. Durand conveys a reverence for place -- his beloved Provence, but is completely scientific about its most famous citizen. This is a well-organized lecture delivered in a light-hearted manner. Thoroughly enjoyable. Absolutely informative.
All the seminars I've attended with Gavin have been excellent. He is a great presenter and quite delightful as well.
Very cool to learn about the development of Gothic architecture and its interaction with royal power. Katherine provided lots of historical and cultural context and great images to get immersed in the story.
I’d seen some of the paintings before, and now I have a deeper understanding of the symbolism and context thanks to Dr Lelik’s overview of these wise and wonderful artists
A very informative and fun review of the many varieties, shapes, and sizes of Italuan PASTA!
