Join a Context Learning expert, broadcasting live from the streets of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia located on the bank of the Danube at the confluence of the Sava River. The city is about 2000 years old. During its history, Belgrade has repeatedly changed rulers and passed from hand to hand, survived several devastating wars, collapsed, and flourished again. That’s why we can say that the city is very eclectic and its beauty is not conspicuous. We will start our virtual tour in front of the Belgrade City Hall famous for the protests of 2000 that culminated in the overthrow of Slobodan Milošević. After a walk along the central streets of the city, we will finish at the walls of the ancient fortress, Kalemegdan.

Led by historian Vadim Malinovsky, this live virtual tour will give participants a street view of Belgrade and teach us how to find our way through the heart of the city. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of the planning of the capital city of Serbia that absorbed the traditions of the Muslim East and the Austro-Hungarian West - but never lost its Slavic identity.

Vadim is a historian (MA) who has graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University. His focus is contemporary Russian history. He is working on a PhD dissertation on Stalin's national policy.
