The Sistine Chapel immediately brings to mind Renaissance master Michelangelo and his famous fresco, The Creation of Adam. Join Rome-based art historian and educator Cecilia Martini for a deep dive into this marvelous space and beyond Michelangelo.

Together we will look at the wide range of frescoes in the Sistine Chapel and learn that Michelangelo's ceiling is merely one chapter of this impressive book of faith. We will read the space and piece together this magical Renaissance puzzle. Every surface of the expansive chapel is decorated by a long list of masters.  The final product is the result of a design project that was carried out by three Popes over a period of 75 years. We'll discuss Pope Sixtus the IV, Pope Julius II, and Pope Paul III and the various artists who were commissioned during their times from Sandro Botticelli to Pinturicchio.

Join art historian Cecilia Martini for an analysis of the artworks that decorate the Sistine Chapel in this interactive seminar. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, we'll come away with a deeper appreciation of the chapel itself, the artists whose creations adorn its walls, and the Popes who sponsored this  Renaissance masterpiece.

Better than being there in person.

I have been to the Sistine Chapel many times, and found, as Dr. Martini suggests, it is way too crowded and noisy to really see and explore it. This allowed me to do that and learn things I had never heard or knew.

Brilliant presentation!

Mrs Martini gave us a brilliant overview of the Sistine chapel. Placed the iconography in historical context, explained the details and sprinkled her narrative with humorous moments. Being a ancient greek specialist I really appreciated the connection of Michalangelos' work with Apollo Belvedere et al. Thank you Dr Martini!
