Context's online seminars are designed for travelers looking to enhance their in-person experiences at famous landmark destinations in cities around the world.
The Borghese Gallery is an art museum housed within a magnificent villa in Rome, founded by the nephew of Pope Paul the V–Cardinal Scipione Borghese. Since the 17th century, this remarkable collection has drawn travelers from around the globe to experience treasures crafted by masters such as Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio, and more. Led by an expert on the ground in Rome, this virtual experience of the collection has been designed to compliment Context's Borghese Gallery Tour.

During our interactive conversation, we will contextualize the origins of this iconic Museum–and the Villa and Gardens it is housed within. We will virtually traverse a timeline from the Italian Renaissance to the Neoclassical world, learning about the key artistic movements and the hidden meanings of works within the Borghese collections. Behind each artwork lies a narrative; our expert will bring these pieces to life and allow learners the opportunity to pose questions as we go along.

Led by an expert Art Historian and a native roman, Cecilia Martini, the goal of this conversation is to convey the essential tools to understand and enjoy in-depth the Borghese Gallery tour experience. Designed to inspire future travels, participants will come away with increased knowledge about Roman art history and movements in Western Art between the 15th and 17th centuries.

Wonderful Tour

Cecilia Martini does an amazing job highlighting the most important works and artists in the Borghese Gallery. She gives the history of the gallery and it’s exquisite collection across the different periods. She explains the differences in styles and what was happening at the time. I highly recommend this and all her conversations on Context Learning.

Borghese and some back story

Having been to Rome twice and visited this museum it was satisfying to hear how much more there is at the Borghese Galleria. Cecilia Martini gave an intriguing presentation on the many layers of the art, architecture, politics, history and sociology of the Galleria. Personally I prefer a live guide on the spot rather than reading although I do both. This lecture is beneficial to those planning a trip to Rome and even for those repeats.

Nice history of the Borghese Museum

The Borghese Museum is one of the most densely packed museums in the world, yet one only has two hours to explore it. This talk was a deep dive into the history of the museum, and a good introduction into its most celebrated artworks.
