The Bernina Railway is one of the oldest train lines in the world. Built between 1908 and 1910, it’s the highest railway in the Alps, as well as one of the steepest in the world. First conceived as a freight and passenger transport line, it has become an extraordinary tourist destination and can be enjoyed in any season. Together we will virtually enjoy breathtaking views among forests, alpine lakes, small picturesque villages, and majestic glaciers. We will travel up to the delightful Swiss region of the Engadine and the fashionable ski destination of Saint Moritz, famous for its elegant hotels and fairy-tale lake, frozen in winter for hockey and skating.

Led by an expert on art and history, Laura Benitti, this interactive seminar will celebrate the unbelievable beauty of the Swiss Alps by train. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will discover a hidden gem in Alpine Europe.

Laura was born in Turin, where she studied history of art, but moved to Milan in 2002. Since her graduation, she has accumulated a long experience as an art consultant and registrar in a few museums in Turin, as well as expertise as a local Milan guide. She loves to be both an experienced and friendly local ambassador of Milan and Como area for her travelers.

A Breathtaking Virtual Tour through Northern Italy and Switzerland

This was a thoroughly enjoyable and informative train ride through lovely countryside with excellent commentary by Dr Benitti. Listeners were taken on a relaxing tour of the main station stops en route from Tirano, Italy, up to the end of the Bernina Railway's trail in the St Moritz area. The lecture was paced just right to take it all in. The history and referral to historic posters of the line at the start was so nostalgic. Laura's use of maps with the terrain highlighted along the route were most helpful. Inserts of a few actual videos or drone views enhanced the tour! Loved the many beautiful photos too. She also related tips of what to do if you got off of the train for a short time or overnight. Loved this session.

Virtual train travel

This was a train trip we were unable to take because of the pandemic, but thanks to Laura's seminar, we now have a better background to enjoy the voyage when were are able to take it in the future.
