Can't make this time? A video recording will be sent to all participants after the seminar.

Join a local Parisian expert, live in the heart of Paris, as we tour the two islands – Île de la Cité and Île Saint Louis – from end-to-end, sharing numerous anecdotes and adventures that relate to the life and growth of France. We'll enjoy a 360º view as we venture through the beginnings of the City and the foundations of the French nation. During our stroll along the banks of the river Seine, we'll get an up-close look at the breath-taking exterior of Notre Dame de Paris and reach the site of the original Royal Palace and beyond to the Louvre and Tuileries Gardens

The two islands are a part of everyone’s visit to Paris, but they aren’t often fully explored. We’ll show you why it is interesting to align them with the neighborhoods on both sides of the river. After a geographic orientation, we will make our way through layers of history and enjoy virtually visiting former pasture and clergy land that boasts the Paris residences of the rich and famous, architectural and engineering achievements that changed the world, and some of the most poetic picnic spots on earth.

Led by expert fiction writer, Gil Soltz, this virtual tour will reveal the natural evolution of a city-state and the extensive beauty of the setting. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with a grasp of the landscape and a sense of how to enjoy the islands instead of merely crossing over them

A native of San Diego, Gil graduated in Politics and English from Brandeis University and later earned two Master's degrees: the first in Public Administration from New York University, and the second a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. After earning his MFA and producing his first book, Gil moved to Paris for a Parisienne and hasn't looked back. For over a decade Gil has lived, written, worked, and led tours in Paris. His background in literature - both canonized and contemporary - combined with his understanding of the inner workings of cities have enabled Gil to tell his narratives as experiences and provide unique insights into Parisian life.

Gil always makes it interesting!

This is one of several tours that I have done with Gil, And they are always interesting and fun. I particularly like the emphasis on this part of the city as so often, when I have visited in person, we go to the cathedral And I don’t pay much more attention to these islands and what else is there. Very informative and off the beaten path.

Want to feel like you're in Paris right now?

Watching one of Gil's tours is as close to actually being in Paris as you can get. Great use of his camera, his narration and history, maps and virtual visuals.

We’ll walk anywhere in Paris with Gil

This was yet another in a series of absolutely exhilarating walks through a well-mapped neighborhood of Paris with Gil. Not only is Gil one of your best live Context companions, he is one of the best guides I have learned from anywhere out in the world. This was in some ways more low key than his other walks—although just lingering around Notre Dame was heartbreaking—and that was just right. Gil always clearly explains his well-planned routes before setting out and all along the way. He handles the videography brilliantly, without ever missing a beat in his expert (and never condescending) commentary. He is so brilliantly prepared and so engaging, that he can easily improvise without getting lost in any way. More walks with Gil. Please.

Gil never disappoints! I’m signing up for my 3rd, but not my last, walking adventure with Gil.
