Event Description:
Join us as we examine the biography of the most famous revolutionary of Russia, Vladimir Lenin.  What were the turning points in his childhood that led him to such a radical political career? What caused his popularity amongst his fellow citizens? Who were his biggest adversaries?
In October 1917 Russia was turned by the Bolsheviks into the Soviet country and Vladimir Lenin became the head of the government. Mr. Ulyanov (it is a real name of Lenin) started his journey to power in 1887 being a student of Kazan University. Six years later he rose to a senior position of a Marxist organization, then he was sentenced to exile and in 1900 he left Russia. Lenin became a leader of the Bolsheviks that was just a small fraction of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party having great contradictions with the other faction, the Mensheviks. By October 1917 Lenin became the undisputed leader of the revolution.
Led by historian Vadim Malinovsky this seminar will give a deep dive into the 20th-century history of Russia. Participants will come away with an increased understanding of the role Lenin played in the dramatic events of the beginning of the 20th century in Russia.

Vadim is a historian (MA) who has graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University. His focus is contemporary Russian history. He is working on a PhD dissertation on Stalin's national policy.
