Join us as we discover one hundred years of outstanding graphic design, revolutionary furniture, and whimsical architecture–the cutting edge of its time–on this captivating walk through the best of Dutch Design. 

For more than one hundred years, designers in the Netherlands have played a critical role within the global industry, leading to the new moniker of "Dutch Design."  The furniture designs of Berlage and the Amsterdam School to the groundbreaking works of Gerrit Rietveld have gained international recognition. Designers like Benno Premsela and Rem Koolhouse are now household names in museums all over the globe. Thoughtful interior and product design have become an integral part of life in the Netherlands. The national government has commissioned top designers to shape the space–from trash bins, phone booths, and telephone books to mailboxes and buildings. 

Led by an expert on Dutch history and culture, we will explore the contributions and innovations made by Dutch designers within the last century. Designed to inspire curiosity and future travels, participants will come away with an appreciation for the subtleties and strategies that leading designers have piloted and promoted to global marketplaces. 

Sabry Amroussi is an art historian and writer living and working in Amsterdam. He specializes in the art of the Dutch Golden Age, mainly in the works of Rembrandt and his school, and has a keen interest in the Jewish history of Amsterdam. He lectures and teaches on both subjects and gives art historical tours all across Europe. As a true omnivore when it comes to art, culture, and even cuisine, he has worked with and for major museums and collectors, such as the LACMA, Rijksmuseum, van Gogh Museum and the P de Boer collection in Amsterdam. As a guide for Context, he is eager to share this knowledge in real life, always with a big scoop of humor, ofter intermingling art with social life, cuisine, and history.
