Join a local art historian, Sara Grinzato, as we take a deeper look at the most impressive historical building in Venetian history. This conversation has been designed to compliment Context's Doge's Palace Tour: Politics and Justice in Venice in-person learning experience.
Built as a fortress in the ninth century and rebuilt on its millenarian foundations several more times, what travelers see today is the result of reconstructions that happened in consequence of three disastrous fires in 1489, 1574, and 1577. Like a phoenix, the Doge's Palace in Venice has risen from the ashes–with the clear purpose of representing the glory of the city and the power it was able to establish on the Mediterranean sea centuries ago.

Lots of information and history surrounding the Doges Palace -enjoyed it!
This is the second seminar I have attended by Sara. As an educator myself who has taught both in-person and online, I always appreciate Sara's well-organized and informative talks. She made the tour of the Doge's Palace lively and compelling. She is obviously well-versed in her area of expertise. Although I toured the palace on my own a few years ago, this presentation enhanced my knowledge and understanding and made me want to return for a second look the next time I'm in Venice, Complimenti, Sara!
This is my second lecture with Sara about the Doge’s Palace and I loved all the new information I learned. We went to Venice in 2018 and because of the pandemic I have not been able to return. I have now a new appreciation of this Palace thanks to Sara who I hope could guide us around Venice in the future!
