Portugal is one of the oldest countries born in Europe (1143), with the oldest defined political borders in the world (1249). Its enormous variety of natural landscapes, charming villages, UNESCO World Heritage monuments, contemporary architecture, and more are all complemented by a rich variety of wines, traditional dishes, and desserts. We have countless ingredients to mix together to form the perfect recipe for our next trip to the Iberian Peninsula.

Portugal has a unique position on the global stage, from medieval times to modern. Its national language and culture are a unique combination of its colonies' and neighbors'. Despite being a small country, the former Portugese Empire has a rich and complex historical timeline, with relevance not only in the Iberian and European context but also on a global scale. Additionally, its geographical location - between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and between South Europe and North Africa, contributed to the diversity and heterogeneity of its natural environment.

Building from this cultural, historical, and geographic context, our seminar intends to show the richness of a country still unknown to most travelers. If in touristic terms, cities like Lisbon, Porto or Coimbra, or regions like the Algarve are already well known (and therefore not explored here), there are still countless (and secret) attractions waiting to be discovered or visited.

Led by an expert on Architecture and Art History, Tiago Miranda Neiva, this interactive seminar will present a real (and less obvious) taste of Portugal. After a first introduction of the different regions and general tips for travelers, we will explore the less known and more hidden spots that make this country so unique and special. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with a better knowledge of the real Portugal, outside the big cities and mass touristic main places.

Tiago Miranda Neiva was born and raised in Lisbon. He studied architecture in Rome and worked later in distinct offices in Portugal and Spain. For several years he was Professor of Arts and Art History, having a Master's degree in Teaching of Visual Arts. He is currently working towards a PhD focused on the Art and Architecture of al-Andalus: the confluence between the Arab, Jewish and Christian medieval world. In recent years he has been working as a tour guide in his hometown, seeking to show and reveal its most intimate secrets through an authentic and passionate local vision.

I loved it, it got me super excited about the trip and I felt I was with someone I trusted. You can't get that from a book. He knew his stuff, yes but was also local so it was personal. AWESOME

Another Super Seminar by Tiago Neiva

Tiago is passionate about every corner of his country and has the ability to turn all the Hidden Gems into three star attractions. I, for one, would like to visit every single one of them. The photographs are especially beautiful.
