A collegial style infuses an enjoyable, well documented and informative introduction to Vermeer's life and times, and his use of emblematic conventions in his art.
This was a fascinating talk. Alerte is wonderful to listen to. I never ever imagined these beautiful paintings held so many secrets!

This first presentation on Vermeer, one of my favorite artist, was just what I wanted. It had just the right amount of information delivered in a relaxing style. I felt like I had had a lovely stroll through Vermeer's life. Perhaps when a lecturer has two presentations and does not have to put everything into one 60 minute seminar the delivery can be less fully packed. It was a nice change even though I do understand and appreciate the seminars loaded with information.
I have always admired Vermeer's paintings. Learning about the allegories behind the 4 paintings Alette presented to us was fascinating. She is an excellent presenter and very knowledgeable about her topic. I look forward to Volume 2.
