Etruscans in Rome: Discover the Little-Known Gregorian Gems in the Vatican Museums with Livia Galante
The artworks exhibited cover a long period and allow us to reconstruct the history of the Etruscan civilization from the lron Age (X- IX C B.C.) throughout the I C BC when the Etruscans were merged with the Romans. Among the absolute masterpieces of this precious collection, there are the rare bronze statue of the s.c. Mars of Todi, V C BC, the magnificent Jewelry from the Regolini-Galassi tomb, VII C, painted cinerary urns, stunning terracotta reliefs and a precious section with Greek vases, the most famous of which is the s.c. Exekias amphora.
Led by an expert on Ancient Roman Topography, Livia Galante, this Conversation will focus on the Gregorian Etruscan Museum. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of the importance of this department of the Vatican Museums as well as dive deeper in the Etruscan civilization.
Livia obtained a degree in Archaeology at the Sapienza University of Rome and has a Master's degree in the History and Conservation of Cultural Heritage from the University of Roma Tre. Her main field of interest is ancient Roman topography and early Christian architecture; however, she is an accomplished scholar whose teaching ability extends to the Renaissance and Baroque Rome. As a native Roman, Livia is very enthusiastic about sharing the deep love and knowledge she has for her hometown with clients.

Livia is a fabulous teacher, full of passion and incredibly knowledgeable. We always learn so much from her and are inspired by her.
A wonderful tour of the museum, with fascinating discussions of the significance of funerary items such as sarcophagi, jewelry, and vessels. Livia brings both an archaeologist's inquisitiveness and art appreciation to the talk. Many of the items have reference to Greek myths, which she briefly describes. I think my favorite part may have been her explanation of how black-figured and red-figured Greek vases were made, and influenced the Etruscans.
Excellent presentation with so many insights into the Etruscans. It is a lot of information to take in, but Livia Galante did such an amazing job in connecting things together. I can't wait for the next lecture!
