Event Details:
Musee du Louvre was established during the French Revolution in order to safeguard works of art – its curators presented the collections of the Kings of France, as well as art rescued from churches and aristocratic homes, and it has been growing ever since from private donations. Some of these masterpieces have become pop culture icons, like the smile of Mona Lisa or the armless Venus de Milo, others surprise you when you round a corner. Together we will delve into the history of the works – the techniques, the artists, and the patrons.

We have taken previous zoom and in person tours with Marie and always find her to be knowledgeable and charming. This presentation was as well. It was really wonderful to learn more about particular pieces in a museum that we love.
This was an excellent program. I've enjoyed viewing "The Raft of Medusa" by Géricault for years, although a bit grisly, it is one of my favorites. Marie's insights as to how it captured a moment in time that represented the political opposition to the return of the monarchy (and the birth over merit system) were mind blowing. GREAT seminar, as always with Ms. Dessaillen
Marie Dessaillen provided a lot more information -- all those fascinating facts! -- that is usually included in these lectures. Her enthusiasm for the subject is infectious, and we plan to sign up for more programs by her.
Very well done. I liked the fact that Marie did it “live”. A canned prerecorded seminar would not have had the same passion and immediacy.
Treasures of the Louvre Museum is a wonderful lecture with Marie Dessaillen. She is very knowledgeable on the subject matter and knew the answers to questions asked of her. She communicates well and gave wonderful historical background as well as shedding interesting information on the paintings and sculptures she chose to share with her audience. Well worth the time.
