This seminar offers an in-depth examination of Georgia O'Keeffe: To See Takes Time, an exhibition currently on view through mid-August of 2023 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Focused on works of paper in various media, this show connects the diverse charcoal, watercolor, pencil, and pastel pieces that relate to many of the artist's better known paintings. As such, it offers a new approach to her studies in relation to some of her most powerful subjects: her sensual flowers, her arresting cityscapes, and her mesmerizing New Mexico landscapes. We will also look at the ways in which working on paper remained critical to the artist's practice over time as she worked through and expanded the types of series for which she is best remembered.

Led by an expert on modern and contemporary art, Dr. Jennie Hirsh, this Conversation will delve not only prepare participants for an actual visit to the show but also offer an opportunity to study its importance in lieu of a trip to New York City. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of how this exhibition embellishes our under standing of the artist today.
