This seminar offers a survey of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s work, touching on key aspects of his career and lasting contributions to the field of architecture.
This seminar will explore how Frank Lloyd Wright revolutionized modern architecture, touching on his trademark visions, such as his Prairie style and Usonian houses. We will touch on key sites, such as Frederick C. Robie House in Chicago, IL, Falling Water in Mill Run, PA, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City, the Beth Sholom synagogue in Elkins Park, PA. We will also discuss other built and unbuilt projects that are lesser-known, such as his plans for an unrealized housing development in the East Village of New York City. At the same time, we will also discuss his writing and teaching (at Taliesin) and the "fellowship" that he set up there.
Led by an expert on modern and contemporary art and architecture, Jennie Hirsh, this interactive seminar will delve into the rich subject of Frank Lloyd Wright's projects, writing, and legacy. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of the contributions and nuances of Frank Lloyd Wright's oeuvre.

Superb

Dr. Hirsh does an outstanding job of presenting Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture in perspective of the times he lived and his philosophy form and function are the same.

This was the second seminar I took with Dr. Hirsch and throughly enjoyed the depth of the content matter. I am heading out to Talisman West so this was a real treat into understanding Wright's architecture.

Understanding Frank Lloyd Wright

I will be visiting Illinois in September including some structures designed by FLW, and it was most helpful to learn so much about not just his buildings but his philosophy about architecture. Form doesn't follow function...form and function are one...I think I've operated on this concept much of the life already too...
