Our conversation will explore 10 highlight landmarks that no visit to Japan would be complete without. Japan is a small island country but it stretches long from north to south – its northern end being next to Russia and its southern end being next to Taiwan – resulting in completely different climate conditions, culture, history, tradition, and food to explore in each unique region of the country.
Our virtual visit will include Tokyo and Kyoto, the current and the ancient capitals of Japan, but we will go far beyond the "Golden Route" in Japan (Tokyo - Mt. Fuji - Kyoto - Osaka). Together we will look at UNESCO Heritage unique sacred sites, well-preserved Edo-period towns, one-of-a-kind art island, an off-the-beaten-track area with wonderful performing art, as well as when and where to see Mt. Fuji the best way and how to best enjoy Hiroshima, etc.
Led by a national-licensed guide-interpreter with 12 years of experience, Kana Hattori, this interactive seminar will provide a solid overview of the 10 significant sites of Japan. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of how best to enjoy this beautiful magical country, Japan.

Kana is a qualified tea master of Urasenke Tea Ceremony School and is an experienced national-licensed guide. She holds a BA in English from Doshisha University, Kyoto, and another BA in Japanese Classical and Traditional Arts from Kyoto University of Arts and Design. She enjoys playing the shamisen, a 3-stringed traditional music instrument that geisha ladies also play, and also performing Noh, 650-year-old Japanese classical theater. The Zen philosophy—to live in the moment—has always been a core tenet of her life.

This conversation is suitable for all ages.

90 minutes, including a 30 minute Q&A.

Japan is beautiful :)

I enjoyed Kana's favorite places in Japan. It was nice to see the beautiful country and listen to her knowledge too. She was very informative and the maps she shared were easy to follow if you were to visit Japan. Thank you for a wonderful experience :)

Highlights of the southern areas of Japan

Informative and fun overview. A surprise was the inclusion of several "not to miss" festivals or celebrations, in addition to selected cities. Ms Hattori included a discussion of Okinawa and some of its surrounding islands. Although I’ve been to Japan several times, this area was new to me and interesting to learn about. She also provided excellent information about sending large luggage to your destination, kaiseki meals, and cherry blossom and fall color timing. Her enthusiasm and depth of knowledge made the time go by quickly and pleasantly.

Wonderful experience

What a wonderful presentation. Way back in the 60s after my mother traveled to Japan, I always had Japan near the top of my list of potential destinations to visit. At this point in my life, I wonder if I'll begin traveling again, but at least I get to see and learn what I could see if I do get there someday.
