Join us as we discover the atelier (studio) and the legendary stories within one of the most famous antiquarian holdings of the 1800s in Italy. This conversation will explore the highlights of this rich but little-known museum. We'll feature a wide range of media including paintings, sculptures, armors and weapons, musical instruments, carpets, tabernacles, and jewels... and take a closer look at works by masters such as Donatello, Della Robbia, Tintoretto, and Giambologna.
Stefano Bardini built his shop in 1880 on the ruins of an ancient convent on the south bank of the Arno river. Within a few years, he could count among his clients the directors of many important European museums, such as Wilhelm von Bode in Berlin, and as many international collectors, including Isabella Stuart Gardner, that was inspired for the decoration of his Bostonian house by Bardini’s blue walls.
Led by Florentine art historian Alessandra Becucci, this conversation will present this unique museum, bequeathed by Bardini to the city of Florence and recently brought back to the look that he chose to present to his important clients.

Born and raised in Florence, Alessandra has a degree in art history from the University of Florence with a specialization in seventeenth-century painting. She obtained an MRes from the European University Institute in Florence, where she defended her Ph.D in history, focusing on the patronage of Tuscan nobility in Europe during the seventeenth century. She has been teaching art history and Italian for several years in various schools and institutions in Florence.

This conversation is suitable for all ages.

90 minutes, including a 30 minute Q&A.

The Bardini Museum was truly a hidden treasure for me, in fact I had never heard of it! ... but fortunately Alessandra brought it alive with her superb presentation. Alessandra's seminars are fantastic- insightful and fascinating and I hope she will offer more seminars on the other house museums in Florence.
