During his university studies at “La Sapienza” in Rome, Dimosthenis participated in several national and international projects, such as the study of Latin epigraphy and Roman pottery as well as various archaeological excavations in different areas of Rome (Roman Forum, Palatine, Mausoleum of Augustus). His work as an archaeologist brought him to carry out research in classical art and architecture, exploring in particular the relationship between iconography and architecture as ancient Greek and Roman artistic expressions. Dimosthenis completed his Ph.D. with a thesis on temple architecture in the Italian peninsula during the Republican period. This topic became his area of expertise. His knowledge of archaeology, ancient art history and Roman architecture is the key that he uses to share his unique perspective on the Eternal City.

Dimo is one of my favorite presenters and I was happy to see him back with a course on the origins of Rome. I always like to start at the beginning of a story and knew that Dimo would walk me through what I needed to know. I have taken many of his seminars and courses and they often follow a similar format that makes assimilating knowledge quite easy. Do not hesitate to take any of his offerings. You will come away the richer for the experience.
This course is a trip even farther back in time, after having taken several other courses and seminars from Dimo, including those on the Roman emperors, on the fall of Rome, and on the final day of Julius Caesar’s life. Dimo’s cogent and immersive presentation style was apparent in this first lecture on the Republic — this one on its prehistory and foundation and the mix of myth and history. As always, the presentation is informed by maps, artifacts, and art and framed by a timeline to keep the subject matter well-organized. Looking forward to the remaining lectures.
Dimo is not only a highly knowledgeable and well-organized teacher, he is also a wonderful, warm person. Although taking on a challenging topic, Dimo took us back to the Roman Republic with clarity and expertise. It was a joy to learn with Dimo!
very informative. Dimo is very knowledgable and obviously loves his subject. I look forward to more classes with him.
This was a very comprehensive historical review of the key events of the Roman Republican, presented in a very logical, well-organized, and enthusiastic way. Dimo is very knowledgable and passionate about his subject. He put a lot of work and heart into this course, making it very enjoyable and leaving one with the desire to learn more! I'm looking forward to learning more with Dimo!
