When we talk about the lovely Dutch city of Delft in an art historical context, Johannes Vermeer is the first name that comes to mind. However, many other talented artists were on the busy art scene of this bustling town in the 1600s. Artists like Pieter de Hooch and the enigmatic Carel Fabritius paved the way for the splendid realism of Johannes Vermeer.
Discover these often overlooked seventeenth-century artists with expert in Dutch Golden Age art, Sabry Amroussi. In this seminar, he will pull these often neglected masters out of the shadow of Vermeer, giving them their proper place in art history while introducing you to the so-called 'Delft School' with his knowledge and wit.
Sabry Amroussi is an art historian and writer living and working in Amsterdam. He specializes in the art of the Dutch Golden Age, mainly in the works of Rembrandt and his school, and has a keen interest in the Jewish history of Amsterdam. He lectures and teaches on both subjects and gives art historical tours all across Europe. As a true omnivore when it comes to art, culture, and even cuisine, he has worked with and for major museums and collectors, such as the LACMA, Rijksmuseum, van Gogh Museum and the P de Boer collection in Amsterdam. As a guide for Context, he is eager to share this knowledge in real life, always with a big scoop of humor, ofter intermingling art with social life, cuisine, and history.

This was our second Sabry lecture. He's wonderful and look forward to more in the future. The presentation was incredibly informative: showing the distinct influence of lesser known painters on Vermeer. Even without the opportunity to travel to Amsterdam, I learned alot that will enhance my appreciation and understanding of Dutch Masters.
Fantastic lecture!
My husband and I have tried to catch practically every show that Mr. Amroussi hosts on Context. He is is erudite, witty and humorous. Great pedagogue
I loved the background information that Sabry gave us on Delft and the selection of artists and paintings covered in the lecture!
Sabry takes you into Delft in depth with its history and the great painters who influenced Vermeer. His analysis of individual paintings is fascinating.
