It's headline news: 2023 is the year of Vermeer!

With a blockbuster exhibition opening at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, showing 28 of the master's painting in one location, never before has there been a time to see such an impressive variety of this Dutch master's portfolio, and such a unique experience will surely will draw in crowds from all over the world.

But what is the purpose of such an exhibition, rather than drawing in huge crowds and seeing so many works in one location? The answer is: research. Having so many works together gives art historians the unique opportunity to compare works 'in the flesh', reassess attributions, and discuss Vermeer's works together in various conferences. Many museums have taken took this opportunity to restore their works in order to send them to the exhibition in tip top condition.

This talk is just about that! Sabry Amroussi has been a fly on the wall the past years, closely following the research involved in this exhibition. With his exclusive inside knowledge, he will share with you the latest (and sometimes controversial) theories, discoveries and research involving the elusive Vermeer. An updated version of a lecture Sabry has given at the Museum of fine Arts in Houston, and to the staff of the National Gallery in Washington DC, "Vermeer: New Light on an Old Master", will change your view of Vermeer's oeuvre, bringing you up to date with the most recent views on his work, and will prepare you thoroughly for your visit to the Vermeer retrospective as well. With his unique wit and profound knowledge of, and involvement within, this project, Sabry will give you an insider's seat at this unique event and exhibition.

Great presentation! Fascinating to learn what some recent research on Vermeer's paintings have revealed and also to gain an understanding of the symbolism in his work. I will never look at a Vermeer in the same way again!
