Midway in its restoration, this is the perfect time to contemplate the history and meaning of one of the world's finest, most important, and compelling paintings; the Ghent Altarpiece. Created around 600 years ago by the infamous van Eyck brothers, this masterpiece ignited a revolution in art, visited by popes, emperors, and famous artists, who all went specifically to Ghent to marvel at this miracle of a painting, the work still compels visitors and scholars alike.

Not only being the most often stolen (!) painting in the world, it is also one of the most studied. Expert Sabry Amroussi unravels all its mysteries in this seminar; from its complex iconography to its often tumultuous history, he will share the latest scientific research in also discussing its much-publicized current restoration. An expert in early art from the Low Countries, Sabry Amroussi will reveal much of the enigma of this complex masterpiece, intertwining art historical scholarship with amusing tidbits on fifteenth 15th-century life in Flanders.
