Explore one of Italy's most visited museums with a local art historian in this immersive introductory Uffizi seminar. From Gothic cathedrals to Renaissance gardens, the works of art conserved in the Uffizi evoke the history of the city where Renaissance was born, while displaying the development of Western art through the works of its most representative masters. We will get up close and (artistically) personal with the masterpieces of Italian art and we will pay a visit to the great European masters collected by the Medici rulers of Florence.
Paintings by Giotto, Masaccio, Filippo Lippi, Leonardo, Raffaello, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, and Artemisia Gentileschi, among others, are not only incredible testimonies to the greatness of these artists but visual documents of a world that gave birth to modernity. We'll discuss how paint, wood, canvas, and gold, shaped by the will of a patron and the skills of artistic genius can still vividly narrate to onlookers and viewers incredible stories. As we analyze and discuss a curated selection of artistic masterpieces, we'll learn visual tales from past societies, cultures, and politics, helping us understand our present.
Led by art historian and native Florentine, Alessandra Becucci, this seminar will explore the vast collection of the famed Uffizi Gallery. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will emerge with a clearer understanding of certain works of art and a solid introductory seminar ahead of any future Florentine visit.

A magnificent presentation!

Dr. Alessandra Becucci is outstanding! Loved all the side details about color, politics, and drama of the times! I can't wait to be back in Florence and do a guided tour with her.

Alessandra's course is a real assist in getting full enjoyment and appreciation of the art contained in the Uffizi Galleries. It's a condensed art appreciation course, a must if one wants to do more than just stroll through the museum. Understanding symbols and styles makes everything a lot more interesting.
